SPAWAR Systems Center Pacific (SSC Pacific) is the U.S. Navy's research, development, test, and evaluation laboratory and fleet support center for command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (C4ISR). SSC Pacific's mission is to lead the Navy from concept to capability through research, development, delivery, and support of integrated C4ISR, cyber, and space systems across all warfighting domains.

SSC Pacific's Technology Transfer (T2) Office makes it easy for commercial businesses or startup companies to access and implement SSC Pacific's innovative technologies. T2's mission is to facilitate and enhance the transfer of intellectual property resources and information between SSC Pacific and the business community in a effort to improve the commercial value of inventions and creative work.

The goal of this San Diego Startup Week session is to get the San Diego entrepreneurial community aware that all this research and innovation is happening at SSC Pacific and that the technologies are available for commercialization through licensing and T2.

SSC Pacific has had their first big startup success here in San Diego, the spin-off company formed in 2006, licensed technologies from the lab, and was acquired by a Fortune 500 company in November 2014 for $85M. Another ongoing project is the Furnace Technology Accelerator, with hopes to have seven new startup companies formed at the conclusion of the acceleration in December 2015 (San Diego Daily Transcript, April 29, 2015 http://www.sddt.com/news/article.cfm?SourceCode=20150429czd&_t=Seven+teams+kickstart+Furnace+Accelerator+program#.VWdUYEVlBxc).
